“The Wind Rises” is a 2013 Japanese animated historical drama film based on the life of Jiro Horikoshi who lived from 1903-1982. Horikoshi was the designer of the Mitsubishi A5M fighter aircraft and the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. These fighter planes were used by the Empire of Japan during World War II. The story follows Horikoshi through his struggles in life, from being denied a pilot's license because of his nearsightedness to how he shot to the top of his aeronautical career. The voice cast includes Martin Short, Mae Whitman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, William H. Macy, Elijah Wood, Werner Herzog, and Ronan Farrow.
